Bat Surveys: An Introduction to Bats, Buildings and Activity Surveys

Delivered by Jon Goodrick from the Wildscapes consultancy, this one day course is aimed at people entering or working in the ecology sector who want to get an introduction to bat surveying before the start of the survey season. The course covers: - An introduction to the biology and ecology of bats - An introduction to the identification of British bats - An introduction to bat legislation - How to plan and conduct a Preliminary Roost Assessment on buildings, identifying potential for bat roosts - An introduction to nocturnal activity surveys - Bat walk in a local park, practicing using bat detectors The course is scheduled to finish at 21:30 but this is an estimated finish time. The evening bat walk is optional and is dependent on the weather; in the event of bad weather, a demonstration of bat detectors with acoustic lures will be used instead. The course costs £72.50 per person, with discounts for students, SRWT members and SRWT staff and volunteers. Individual bookings should be made using Eventbrite; corporate bookings (requiring a Purchase Order) can be taken by emailing info@wildscapes.co.uk.
