We are delighted to invite you to the Winifred Raphael Memorial Lecture sponsored by the Royal College of Nursing Foundation. Our speaker will be Professor Aisha Holloway from The University of Edinburgh "Research evidence influencing health policy: the art and science" Professor Holloway will use her extensive research in the area of Alcohol harm and public health to explore the complex relationship of the interface of evidence and policy  . Bio: Aisha Holloway, Chair in Nursing Studies and Head of Nursing Studies at The University of Edinburgh is a Registered Adult Nurse. She has a clinical background in General and Acute Medicine as well as Intensive Care nursing. With a programme of research spanning over 20 years, Aisha's work has a particular focus on alcohol related harm and more recently global public health, with a methodological expertise in Randomised Controlled Trials (RCTs) and the development and evaluation of complex interventions and innovative multi-disciplinary, public engagement methodologies for research co-production. A Florence Nightingale Leadership Scholar, former Hon Nurse Consultant for Alcohol Research & Policy at Scottish Government, current Adjunct Professor at Johns Hopkins School of Nursing, Aisha is also Programme Director for Evidence for the Nursing Now Global campaign. Aisha's personal and professional journey has at its core, a commitment to develop political nurse leadership to lead, shape and inform the contribution of the nursing profession and elevate its global positioning of influence. *The original lecture was due to be given by Lord Willis of Knaresborough, but due to the current extraordinary situation in Government, Lord Willis, with great regret, is unable to join us for the lecture on Wednesday evening.  The Winifred Raphael Memorial public Lecture (WRML) is one of the main events in the RCN Research Society calendar. Thanks to Mrs Raphael's family who launched the memorial fund, and to all those involved since, the lecture is an event which often draws together a variety of nurses from different nursing and geographical areas. The lecture itself has evolved in 3 stages. From 1981 - 1993, the annual lecture took place in London, England. With a 1995 lecture, there then followed a break of 5 years before the lecture was reinstated as an evening lecture within RCN Congress between 2001 - 2006. After the 2006 lecture, it was decided to encourage the regional groups of the RCN Research Society to take turns in hosting the event. The lecture became a public one in 2011, and since 2015, the RCN Foundation has supported the annual lecture.
